HIGH SPEED TWO (HS2)
Britain’s biggest infrastructure project in decades cleared the final hurdle to construction yesterday as the HS2 Hybrid Bill received Royal Assent. This clears the way for the nine-year construction programme to start between central London and Birmingham’s Eastside district. Enabling works packages have already awarded across the three key sections of 140-mile route. The Act of Parliament yesterday means the West Midlands can press ahead with plans to use the rail link as a catalyst to drive economic growth around the planned Birmingham Curzon terminal unlocking £1bn of regeneration opportunities.
Manchester’s proposed £110m arts centre, the Factory, has been promised £9m a year government funding and will be designed by the Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas.
George Osborne previously pledged £78m towards the build costs of a project seen as integral to his and Manchester city council’s “northern powerhouse” initiative.
On Wednesday, he pledged a further £9m a year revenue funding from 2018-19, while the council announced that Koolhaas and his Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA) practice had won the international competition to design it.
CUBEX have been selected for a technical package on Principle Place in London. We were selected because of our specialist technical design and delivery capability. The Principal Place project is expected to cost around £160m to build and will consist of a massive 15 storey office block with a full height internal atrium. The striking building, designed by Foster & Partners will be topped with a roof garden, swimming pool, tennis and basketball courts on the roof. Principal Place, which links Bishopsgate and Shoreditch, will also include a new public piazza and 20,000 sq ft of retail space. Look out for more updates.

We have recently participated in another global infrastructure project. London Gateway, the UK’s first deep-sea container port for over 25 years, is the most technically advanced container port in the world, integrated with Europe’s largest logistics park to provide access to the largest consumer markets in the UK. Its capacity will eventually handle 3.5 million TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units), providing a much needed increase in capacity for the UK’s container terminals. Marine and Coastal applications like this are where our unique coating capability is much loved!
SEM, DARTFORD handover - SEM Controlled Motor Technology have recently moved into their new manufacturing facility in Dartford, Kent. This new build project is another specialist design we have engaged in - not only that, but our manufacturing times helped towards a 'quicker than expected' completion for them. Our Cosmos™ Specialist Metal Door Systems are a key integral part of the design internally.
SOUTH BANK TOWER in it's glory is a majestic architectural statement, built in the Modernist tradition of clean lines, unadorned finishes, light-flooded rooms, and a display of true quality. Whilst a close neighbor to The Shard, it stands unique in its own right. This project proved us as not only specialist in expertise of product, but our experience and versatility takes us high into the skies "where quality and trust matters". We designed, manufactured, and installed a VIRTEK-Acoustic Gate system to the towers Building Maintenance Unit 300 feet above the busy London streets and the River Thames. The roof has a fantastic roof garden with a bar and the richest green lawns too.
CUBEX have recently completed a major part project for Aberdeen Asset Management, which was awarded a BREEAM rating of Excellent, was a traditional JCT contract for 54,000ft² of net lettable category A speculative office space with a basement, and three floors. The secure basement car park provides parking spaces for 52 vehicles along with 50 cycle parking spaces, showers and lockers. The car park boasts a fully automatic VIRTEK Sliding Gate secure access and egress point by CUBEX for your peace-of-mind.

We couldn't fly low enough to show you the detail of the architecture that we designed and engineered on this venue. Our Cosmos™ Metal Door Systems are somewhat unique, not only for their resistance to coastal conditions, but our designs inspire many..Here you will see our doors are designed to accommodate the stone architectural design face - although hardly seen, they intrigue many!
CONGRATULATIONS!!... DONG Energy's SMartWind get the go ahead for the world’s largest offshore windfarm ... If built to the full capacity, the investment would total around £6bn providing a great opportunity for economic growth in the Humber region and beyond. When complete, it will power around 1.8m UK homes. Business and Energy Secretary Greg Clark said: “The UK’s offshore wind industry has grown at an extraordinary rate over the last few years, and is a fundamental part of our plans to build a clean, affordable, secure energy system.” Located 90km off the Yorkshire coast, the windfarm will comprise up to 300 wind turbines and will connect to the grid at North Killingholme in North Lincolnshire.

As in all aviation projects, only the best will do - that's why we were involved on the design and engineering of the perimeter protection systems used on the DHL global hub... which for our guys in the UK has probably been a key logistical support when shipping well earned seasonal gifts to our clients across the globe!
Another project package completed by CUBEX - The £31 million building serves the needs of three organisations: NHS Bolton, Bolton Council and the University of Bolton. This three-way alliance enables direct integration of services, and promotes an inclusive and sustainable facility. Defined by its dramatic archway, and authentic design - Bolton One houses an NHS urgent care, diagnostic and treatment centre, sports and health education facilities for the University, and public amenities including a swimming pool, hydrotherapy pool, fitness suite, aerobics studio and gym.

NESTLE UK - You have probably enjoyed at least one Coffee so far today... Was it Nescafé ? If it was, it is very likely that your coffee ingredient initiated here at the new Nestlé Freeze Dried Coffee plant in Derbyshire - This is the the first coffee processing plant of its kind in the world, and cost £200Million to build. We enjoyed a key role in the design and manufacture of specialist bespoke Metal Door applications to over 100 apertures. The applications included Acoustic and Fire Rated doors incorporated with custom styled design features.
LONGBRIDGE TOWN CENTRE - The VIRTEK™ Acoustic Automatic Sliding Gate system seen here are quite some sight.. some of our Clients think they should become the 'Eighth Wonder of The World', but size and beauty isn't everything with our systems... NORTHUMBRIA POLICE HEADQUARTERS - This complex construction project involved conversion of a Grade II-listed building, refurbishment of an occupied office, and construction of a new-build office linking two existing buildings – while working on a constrained city centre site just one metre from a live railway, the East Coast Main Line (ECML).
